The dyes for solid primary colors like deep reds, blues, greens, and yellows are expensive.  A cherry red tile can cost about $10 to $12 per square foot, a cobalt blue tile about $8 to $10 per square foot.  Mosaics hobbyists usually buy in small amounts and are willing to pay what those colors cost.  If an item does not sell well, stores just don't stock it.
